For viruses, I use Avast antivirus. It's free, easy to use, and pretty comprehensive. www.avast.com
For spyware, I use two programs, Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware. Again, both are free, and catch pretty much everything. www.spybot.com www.lavasoft.com
