If someone is bi-polar, how often are these mood swings? Is one typically happy for a few days, and then can fall into days of depression over something relatively simple? Or is it purely in the sense of you're really happy, you're really depressed, over and over and over on a hourly/daily basis? I wonder because i've noticed over the past 2 years or so (when I really started to try and understand my body and moods) I will go a few days with a great attitude and outlook in life. Things will be good, I might even attempt being social. But even on these few good days all it takes is ONE little thing. For instance, a teacher calling me out in class, that will completely throw my day off and send me into a whirlpool of bad news. I might feel fine the next day, but it could also bring on a few days of constant depression until something good happens to bring me back to relative happiness. I know none of us are doctors, but i'd like to get some opinions. Preferably from someone who has had experience first hand or knows someone with bi-polar.
It depends on the person, theres times where I will have violent mood swings several times an hour and sometimes I don't for days.

Bipolar disorder is definitely cyclic most of the time. It's highly uncommon for it to cycle daily, especially more than once a day. It's usually a couple days, weeks, months, or even years of manic state, then a pitfall in to a depressive one. Just get an evaluation, although I've studied this for years, the doctor will know far more than me.

I know someone bipolar. It's totally normal to have REALLY intense mood swings. Bipolar people experience (frequency varies) episodes of depression and mania. They seem very out of character, and usually REALLY interfere with your life (during a manic episode you may do something like beat up your friend or quit your job impulsively... shit like that). Just Google the symptoms and read up on it and it'll make more sense to you.

So basically you're saying time isn't the main factor here... It's just the emotional shift from happiness to depression?
