So my mom and me were having this discussion about how she was told that by the year 2000 or so they would have flying cars and such and how she was mad that the scientists haven't invented them yet. But really here's the deal. It's not that flying cars don't exist... They do! Complete with a max speed of about 350 MPH. The question is, can the people handle it? The answer is most obviously no. People can't even handle cars that are secured by gravity, no frickin way are they going to be able to handle zooming around 70 feet over the road.

The basic problem with flying cars is that they are still considered airplanes by the FAA.  So in order to fly one you must have a pilots license which takes a lot of time.  And do you really want all those bad drivers in the sky

of course people aren't ready! People are stupid, all they want to do is race, race, race, and pimp out. Besides, with all those flying cars, u could easly get lost from one place to another NEW place. Plus there wouldnt be anyboundries to stop us from invading other places like Hawaii, Paris, Tokyo, and other famous tourist attractions

The 'thing' is, the humanity is already running out of resources and ideas. I only see it as a silly fantasy, even if there are models already. We'd be screwed to hell before we accomplish that.

There will be a decent amount around by 2030 with the current development, and you can bet that most will have automated guidance to prevent collisions.

This is hilarious! Figures one of the first thing the common car owner will do with his very own flying car is "trick" it out. :)

In open areas, sure. In more crowded areas it would be fairly easy to crash.

Yeah, I'm sure that one day we'll have flying cars, but we're not ready for them to become mainstream now.

The raw technology already exists, but there are still many hurdles to overcome. Increasing fuel efficiency is a big one.

A decent amount by 2030? Society doesn't adapt that fast. Just look how long it's taking people to switch to hybrids for example.

If we factor in engine failure, congestion in urban areas, low-altitude flight, tall buildings and drunk driving...not very hard. But harder than crashing a car on a road, no doubt.

my main concern is engine stall... WAY dangerous, you cant just coast along after a stall like in a car. you plummit.

thats what i never got about things like the jetsons and that sky-town in star wars... what the hell happens when those things stall? you're freaking dead..
