The early methods of clinical psychiatry was not developed using scientific methodology, but it obviously have profound and important place in present day world.
Literal scientology is bullshit obviously, and the whole thing pisses me off. Psychiatry has little or no evidence to back up its assumptions, they're generally based on shortsighted, underresearched, heavily slated and narrow perspectives. Take for example the supposed 'brain differences' for 'disorders'; the margins of error are astronomical and this does not account for the fact that a person in a different state at the moment, regardless of supposed 'cause' is going to have a different brain scan. Non-clinical methods have already been shown to be more effective than clinical methods in general, such as the study where schizophrenics were allowed to recover in a home type environment and be treated like actual human beings. The biological disorder idea is just a crux to avoid social change.
It cannot be a science because we understand the brain so little, but we do understand some emotional dynamics, which should be more of the basis of healing: environment, situation, and thoughts. This is not profitable, however.
