Silly paranoia.  Every new technology is opposed by ignorant skeptics.

I am neither paranoid nor ignorant. But I am opposed to this technology.

If someone wants to implant an RFID chip into my shoulder they're going to have to rip it off me first.

Even if you ignore the horrific liberty infringement implications, all technology that can be made by governments can be made by counterfeiters, barring things that require specific rare materials. Often counterfeiters invent technology before governments do.

A century ago you would be the people saying "nobody's running electric wires in my house!" or "I don't need no license card to drive my car".   People always fear the new and things they don't understand. My dad builds RFID systems and I know the extensive measures taken to prevent misuse.  Just one example- when you buy something your photo and iris scan will be matched to the ping database.  A fraudulent chip wouldn't match and be discovered immediately.  20 years from now you won't need money, keys, tickets, licenses, passports or ID cards of any kind. And this is just a sample of countless ways RFID will benefit good people and deter the bad.

My dad builds RFID systems...
Hence, your inherent bias.

Of course RFID chips have great potential.  I read an article in Scientic American a few years ago about how it'd revolutionise inventory tracking for products, etc (the only issue was of cost).  With all the neat technologies being developed (such as its induction power system), I'm sure it can be a great thing.

However, implanting these devices into people is a very sensitive issue.  It is nothing to do with being against technology -- there are just certain issues (due to past notions and societal constructs) about which the public would be wary.  Are these preconceived notions right?  I am not one to judge, but I can say: It has no correlation to the trepidation of the people of yore installing electrical lines in their house.

"Bias"?- I'd prefer- "enlightenment"- knowing what I'm talking about vs a sea of ignorance and paranoia from those who don't.

I understand your point about people's 'sensitivities' re a implant.
They felt the same way when vaccinations, tooth fillings, IUDs or any number of things injected or implanted in the body were introduced.  But once people see how really tiny these things are- even little kittens get them!
Ironic isn't- people will chip their dog or cat in case it gets lost but wont provide their child the same protection!
RFID would practically end lost and kidnapped children!

Eh, maybe a tad of both?

Your argument is quite flawed.  I would elaborate on my idiotic point but I have to go now (cycling regiment, yeah...).

Just wanted to point it out to you.

Unless you can tell me how my argument is "flawed" you accusation is worthless.

You can call it enlightenment if you wish, but I don't think you have really thought much about the full implications of what you are advocating. There are people with even more knowledge of RFID than you who have concerns, and not just with the implanting of the chip into the human body.

Getting a tooth filled or a vaccination doesn't lead to a person losing their privacy.

Oh, the "privacy" bit.  Well tell me- do you have a cellphone?  Do you know it tracks where ever you go?  And information on every call you make, every credit purchase you make, every check you write, every toll pass, just about everything you do these days is documented somewhere.  And nearly every public place is recording your picture. Even most new cars have data recorders in them that can be use in court if you have an accident. So get over this "privacy" thing- that's old hat.

We HAVE a big brother society now.  Everyone who functions in modern society is documented in numerous ways.  But if you are not do anything wrong so what. I think its good that there are ways to track down bad people and protect law abiding people like me.

I'm sorry, but it's not "old hat", it's important in a free society. And it's sad that everything you mention is has something to do with reducing that privacy.

Somewhere there is a corollary to Murphy's Law to the effect that if something can be used for evil purposes, it will be used that way. And if you read those links, you'll see that this not only has potential to be used wrongly, but also has the strong probability.

If you don't want your actions documented you better find a cave to live in.  Oh and get off the internet because there's certainly nothing private about that. The government can track you down right now using your IP, even through a proxy- ask how many pedophiles have been caught that way.  I'm all too happy to have a means of tracking down criminals and terrorists.  The potential for protecting good people from bad people far outweigh all this right-wing hysteria about Big Brother.
