1. I don't know 2. Not sure 3. Anti-biotics wont work to cure it because flu is a virus, not a bacteria. 4. don't know that one either 5. It's complicated... Viruses and bacteria can pick up and incorporate stray bits of DNA into their own, yeah it's weird.
------- Some mysteries are not meant to be understood, only questioned fully.

How is the Bird Flu vaccine weakened? Well, for starters, there is no Bird Flu vaccine as of yet. And if there were a vaccine, why'd you want to weaken the vaccine? You'd want to weaken the infectious agents in the vaccine. To weaken a virus, since they're non-living (unlike bacteria) you can't kill it. Therefore, you'd either render it disabled by doing some sort of molecular modification, or you'd just cleave off all but the "recognition" portion of the virus -- the portion that activates the immunde response. Why is the Bird Flu vaccine made on Hen's eggs? There is no bird flu vaccine...Tamiflu is not a vaccine. The development of a vaccine will take some time. But, to use hen's eggs, probably because that would effectively promote viral reproduction for harvesting to make a vaccine out of it. Why won't some antibiotics work to cure it? As said above, antibiotics target various mechanisms of prokaryote reproduction. Viral reproduction is a hell lot different, and therefore cannot work. Why may the animal rights activists be concerned when its is being tested? 'Cuz they're dumbasses...Because the testing of a new vaccine will obviously cause the death of a bunch of animals. They have to test it on something! How does the genetic material exchange? Oh hell this is a huge thing on its own. To boil it down, H5N1 is a strain of the Influenza virus, which is part of the Orthomyxoviridae family. These viruses contain negative single-stranded RNA as their genetic information. To exchange this information, the virus has to penetrate the cell and deposite its (-)RNA. Viral transcriptase produces +mRNA, which is able to be translated into viral proteins. The -RNA also undergoes viral replication to +/-RNA, which is the replicative form of the genetic info. From here, the -RNA can be synthesized, and the viral proteins and new genetic info comes together and voila, new virus. Adv + Dis of the Governments plan to buy Tamiflu (antibiotic) Advantages: if they plan to administer it for free...great! Disadvantages: Tamiflu sucks balls, the government sucks balls... Annnnnnnnd, Tamiflu is not an antibiotic! It's an antiviral.
------- You'd think a thousand miles would be enough, I guess I'll keep walking.
