For some reason mine comes up without a page rank... but if i go check myself then i come up with a rank of 2 for all of my pages, including letter for letter the URL i added to LW.
The one you added to LiveWire is http://www.craigk.org/links/, which FireFox's plugin agrees with LiveWire as being unranked. However, http://www.craigk.org/pictures/ is ranked 2/10.

http://craigk.org/bin/lw/page_rank.png

Well, either this site has a bug or something else is up....

Use the link validation page to check your page's rank. The original external site I posted has bugs.

David, please respond to my post. This really seems to go against the original point of this site.
I didn't respond because I thought what you had to say was selfish and mistaken.

You seem to have an agenda to keep LiveWire to yourself. The claim that getting more people to link to LiveWire attracts "new members" would appear self-evident, however you go on to claim that these "new members" are unintelligent and somehow degrading to the site. I am offended on behalf of all new members. Yet, you have the audacity to tell me that we can't share the site with others?

You say that encouraging people to add links to LiveWire is against the original purpose of the site? How dare you cast such a ridiculous judgement. It is clear that you want to keep the site to yourself and that you do not work on improving the site day in and day out as I do. You have not invested 6 years building this website as I have. LiveWire is an exceptional website with an exceptional team of moderators and an exceptional member-base.

I spend my time working on LiveWire knowing that all 2000 active members will benefit from each improvement I make. Imagine how much more meaningful my time spent upgrading LiveWire would be if there were 2400 active members? Imagine how many more replies from diverse individuals could be made to your own topics if there were 400 more active members than there are today?

It's exactly like money that you can spend, but only in one place, that place being LiveWire's AdManager which lets you buy advertising space on LiveWire.

Actually, that's not what I had to say. What I had to say is that this method of attracting new members is counterproductive because most of the new members that have had to sign up more recently are of this nature. I'm all for new members that can make a valuable contribution to this forum, thus why I suggest ways that improve the experience for veterans and attract intelligent people while stemming the influx of what you would call 'n00bs'.

I am offended on behalf of all new members. Yet, you have the audacity to tell me that we can't share the site with others?

I never said that new members as a whole are bad. I said that many new members are pollute this forum, though there are some that grow to be useful members, even if they don't start out at full.

You say that encouraging people to add links to LiveWire is against the original purpose of the site?

Yes, I do. Here's why:

Indiscriminately trying to spread an advertising base far and wide in this way attracts a huge amount of new members, often of the immature type. This also encourages already existing 'noobs' to invite a huge number of friends from their personal sites and whatnot, which leads to many more joining up.

It is clear that you want to keep the site to yourself

Wrong. I really just want to keep the huge number of noobs down. We cannot be perfect, but we can do better. This site is becoming much too noob friendly and the older members are losing out in favor of a mediocre majority. New members are fine, but I believe the purpose should be to improve the experience for older members while bringing in the best new members possible.

and that you do not work on improving the site day in and day out as I do.

I disagree with this. While I have not been around for six years, I have been around a considerable amount of time, and have helped an enormous amount of people with extremely serious issues as well as suggested many things for the site. I also understand that you are busy, but that doesn't excuse what a lot of us see as major blunders often times. All the while, we have a notice up that says "if you're thinking of suicide, your mind is lying to you." I care, and even if you are afraid to deal with people like that (this is understandable however, it's a hard subject for people who have not experienced it much themselves) there are others like myself that are not and are more than able to do so.

I spend my time working on LiveWire knowing that all 2000 active members will benefit from each improvement I make.

Strange considering that a lot of older members find the quality of this site to be deteriorating. There have also been many outrages at some updates that were not dealt with. I've also heard from many high sources that much of the mod team is frustrated. Nothing that shouldn't be known to a 'member', but something you should take into consideration, perhaps.

LiveWire is an exceptional website with an exceptional team of moderators and an exceptional member-base.

Just because it's better than some other forums out there does not mean that it could not be much better with a few adjustments. Myself and many other members have found some of your past moderator decisions to be random, counterproductive and even disturbing. The same goes for some...features on the site such as the ehelp descriptions.

Imagine how much more meaningful my time spent upgrading LiveWire would be if there were 2400 active members? Imagine how many more replies from diverse individuals could be made to your own topics if there were 400 more active members than there are today?

It depends on the quality of those members. More does not necessarily mean better. I agree with expanding our member base and am not advocating an elitist craphole.

Above all, I'm going to be honest. You're not going to find many people like myself; a lot will just suck up to stay in a position of power. I don't hate you, nor am I selfish (look at some of my replies in ehelp), but I do rightfully think that this site is going in the wrong direction and I'm sure that a lot of veteran members agree with me.

but I do rightfully think that this site is going in the wrong direction

You need to learn to distinguish between fact and opinion.

As for what the moderation team thinks, i have yet to see any evidence of almost all your claims, so please, present if you have anything, otherwise stop talking about it. You're a one man propaganda machine as far as i see.

My biggest concern with what you say is that you seem to have forgotten that this is not a club, its a support forum. The whole point is to encourage new members who might not know the site exists. What you suggest is almost a closed community, which i think shows you missed the point.

So for all your talk of how older members need treating differently etc you still don't seem to have got it after all the time you have here... i think that proves many moderation promotions to be considerably less random than you think.

Everything is more or less biased, there's just a question of the degree and how much you back it up.

As I am not a moderator, I can't link to actual posts and give specific evidence. However, my claims are not unfounded because I've not only heard about this but I've seen it on the forums.

No, I'm not really suggesting that. I'm suggesting a somewhat open community that welcomes intelligent new members, not some kind of chat site like it is rapidly becoming.

So for all your talk of how older members need treating differently etc you still don't seem to have got it after all the time you have here...

I think that older members shouldn't be moderated by people who are relatively new. Simple as that. I think it's fair.

Maybe in the past. Not more recently. Why else would there be Spirit then Mapleafan and similar choice discrepancies? I know that there are timezones and whatnot, but seriously...
