I find it so amazingly intriguing that the galaxy's that we perceive of from Earth are about 2 million light years away from us.

Which means that what we're viewing was what the galaxy looked like 2 million years ago.

By now, nobody really even knows what it looks like. It could have collided with another galaxy and merged into an even larger galaxy, and we'd still have no clue, because of the delay.

One of the things I that keeps me alive. I love the thought of other civilizations out there. If I had one wish, it would be that I would be able to 'fly' through space at light speeds. I would go into astronomy but to much math is involved and I just love to stare at the stars.

a friend of mine and i were talking about that because she was reading the book about everything or something, and also how everything we're seeing is from a complete different time as ours, and we wonder how other galaxies would view ours.

Well, it's not like galaxies containing billions of stars just randomly jerk across the sky.  You can predict with perfect accuracy where every galaxy is at this moment simply by knowing the masses of all the other galaxies around and how far away they are.

Well I suppose computer programs can extrapolate the movement we see now to know where they go in the future just as they can predict the future orbits of asteroids and comets from extrapolating their current position and movement.

That's true. That is the mystery.
