Which means that it's a bad argument.

I can't predict anything because I don't have the ability, but I hope human soldiers will still be in the army a hundred years down the line. People need jobs, not robots, and there are people who want to be on duty for the military/navy/what-have-you. Robots shouldn't do everything for us. How boring would it be, us sitting on our asses all day? People need to work and do things for themselves.
------- I hope I live to tell the tale.

If I were fighting a robot army I'd just straight up train huge numbers of dogs to attack the robots and focus all of my real forces on killing civilian women and children.

I think it will just be smart bombs and smart rockets. No need for ground forces...

I doubt there will be efficient robot assault troops that would work totally off of AI, they would need to be commanded, or controlled by humans. Actually I see it being kinda like a real life video game.

In one hundred years, I'm completely sure that they could program assault troops that perform completely independently without even higher command. However, I doubt they would allow this, and they would most likely be commanded from a higher source. We'll likely have passed the 'remote control' stage far before 2100.

WTF do you guys thing that all armed forces are as well armed as US military?! We'll have human soldiers for sure, because not everyone is as rich as the US! Some armies around the world don't even have airplanes! Not to mention self-guided rockets and stuff! While US army has sofisticated comps, smart weaponry, stealth bombers and all the high tech stuff, many armies and guerrillas use only Kalashnikovs and 50 year old weaponry! And robots would be very vulnerable, because they would need a large main computer somewhere, and that could be destroyed by one Tomahawk missile! And no, why would someone spend billions of dollars on making fully autonomic fighting robots, when he has a lot of soldiers who are ready to die for free! World is not yet that advanced. We'll probably see that in a bit more distant future, atleast in 200 years.

100 years is the distant future, because of the rate of technological advancement. The world is not that advanced now, but the pace of technological growth is extreme and will likely increase further. Even crappy weaponry by 2100 most likely will be far beyond ours, but that wasn't really my point. I agree that some places may very well have outdated guerrilla armies; I was talking about well armed/equipped countries. It's likely that the computer would be somewhere overseas or networked in a way that immediate destruction would be nearly impossible, also. The reasons for robot armies becoming mainstream are as follows: 1. Not having humans die (at least not on our side) is more appealing to the public. 2. Soldiers cost quite a bit to maintain; in the era of cheap robotics robots could be quite a bit cheaper (of course not in the very present) 3. Higher destructive power/efficiency Post edited at 12:46 pm on June 23, 2007 by DoomMaker
