This is iMegaphone's older account. Here's an example I wrote when I was given this assignment in English class two years ago. I'm aware it's not very good, but I hope it'll give you the idea of what to do for this contest. The Harp < Click for the picture
It was a hot summer day. Tyler was camping with his parents in the Magic Wood, a forest known for it's myths and legends. He noticed his father unloading camping supplies from the back of the blue van when he decided to ask his father about the harp.
"Do you think it's true?" he asked.
"What's true?"
"The harp that grandma told me about, It can heal sickness and wounds."
"Here in this forest?"
"Yes."
"Please Tyler, don't start believing in that fairy tale rubbish."
Tyler slowly walked away disappointed. His father was never a dreamer, he only stuck with the facts in life. How can he be so closed minded? Tyler thought to himself.
He walked over to Seamus and began to pet the soft brown fur on his head. The German Shepard began to lick his hand. Seamus is very fond of Tyler, he was the only one who payed attention to him. Tyler's parents we're always too busy fighting to care much about the dog. Tyler was lying down his tent when he heard his parents fighting over money again. Why are they fighting about money here? He thought to himself. He decided to put it off for now and slowly drifted back into sleep when he had a dream.
It was a really nice pond, he thought to himself.
And there was a golden harp sitting on a rock. But as he awoke, he heard his parents arguing once again. Angry, he grabbed the leash from the floor of the tent and put it on his dog. He needed to go for a walk.
"C'mon Seamus let's go for a walk," he said to the dog, "Maybe we can find it!"
Tyler and the dog snuck out through some trees and they began to walk through the dark forest. Several times during their walk. Tyler tripped over some branches. He was always such a klutz. It wasn't until he tripped again that he heard what sounded like something large dropping into water. Seamus began to bark and pull Tyler with his leash closer to the where the sound was coming from.
"Easy boy!" he shouted, but the dog kept pulling on the leash.
The dog kept pulling and pulling and eventually they reached a pond. Tyler noticed their was still ripples in the water, as if something fell in. His heart began to pound when he noticed a golden harp sitting on a rock in the center of the pond. He began to feel strangely comfortable when he looked down and noticed all of his cuts and scrapes we're dissolving into the air, like magic.
So it's true he thought, it's really true.

It is foolish to fear what you cannot avoid.
