What WERE you talking about??

intellectulintellectualintellectual

i'm saying that nothing is absolutely necessary, and then people try to nipick my post by saying "well eating is necessary for survival and chickens are necessary for chicken farming" which completely misses my point.

schoon, survival is 'necessary' in the minds of humans, but beyond that and an animal's instinctual behaviour which is just as inconsequential, nothing is essential.

OH FOR FUCK SAKE!

THIS IS THE INTELLECTUAL FORUM, WE HAVE MORON & VERBOSE FILTERS FOR A GOD-DAMN FUCKING REASON.

its supposed to encourage disscussion and stop stupid -no point- on liners.

If you had a point, perhaps it would be a god idea to explain it ehh?

explanation does 2 things:

a) removes doubt/confusion
b) makes you look slightly less stupid.

original statement: war is necessary
refutation: nothing is necessary
explanation: without a qualifyer, the original statement is far too vague to be properly debated. therefore we must find the most valid definition for ourselves. yours seems to be "war is necessary for survival" but that is too easy to dismisss because there are so many situations in which it is untrue, so i assumed he meant something else by his statement.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               i couldn't think of anything that was logically sound, though, so i fell back on the catch-all that it is absolutely necessary, and to go without it is just unthinkable. of course, there's notihng which meets that critera, ergo 'nothing is necessary'.

how's that?

I think that it is a lofty goal that we won't achieve.  Governments are never content with what they have, always having to create a war to gain more territories.  To quote "Right in Two" by Tool, "Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground.  Silly monkeys give them thumbs they make a club, and beat their brother down.  How they survive so misguided is a mystery."

I doubt that there will ever be world peace. At any given point in time some nation is getting their panties in a wad because someone stepped on their toes. Human beings get upset not over things that happen, but over the implications of the actions.

For example:

You don't get mad at your significant other for not getting you something when you ask them...

you get mad because you feel like they don't love you if they won't do something for you.

It's not the actions, it's the implications.

Just like the nuclear test in N. Korea. If N. Korea has nukes no one is saying that they're going to use them (I do not support the N. Korea atomic plan so don't misquote me). The fact is they might use them and that's scary enough.

Get the point?

World Peace? Yea right when the apocolypse comes and we are all killed. The thing about world peace is that at some point, it would have to mean that everyone in the world, or most of the world is cooperating on the level that would have to eliminate hunger, disease and war in places like Africa and East Asia and things like that. I just don't believe that people today would ever be able to accomplish such a thing and actually learn to get along.

World peace is just a storybook fairytail, It will never happen because it's not human nature. People just want thing's like land or power and to achieve this we are agressive. Even if majority of people wanted world peace and strove toward it... There will always be someone or something that will stand in the way.

nope, cause somebody's always gotta be higher than the next guy, or higher than everybody else. Face it, some people are truly intelligent, but there are always people who would fight to show that they are better. I'm not a pacifist, I don't believe in starting wars just for power or land (that's stupid), however, I do feel very strongly about finishing them.

Honestly, I don't think world peace can happen so long as people are capable of independent thought and desire to maintain their individuality and freedom. Sure, if we were all willing to give that up, world peace would be more than possible and even likely, but I'm really not willing to give up higher thought and freedom. It's just too high of a price.

I find it quite improbable that there will ever be world peace. Humans will always disagree on something, and they will always want to fight about it. As long as people can think their own thoughts, there will never be complete world peace.

World Peace?
Horrendeously unlikely.
Wherever there is ambition there is likely to be conflict. Take Shakesphere's play MacBeth for example.
