I don't buy pop every day, but I every now and then I'll buy something. Cans are only sixty cents here, and I never drink a full bottle ($1.00), so why bother with that?

Well, even though I don't buy it anymore, it never had a bad effect on me at school. Up until this year, I was a soda junkie (I bought 2 a day). Cans aren't too expensive where I got mine, only $.75 and I had leftover lunch money to buy it. I would buy one for lunch, then one as school ended, so I really wasn't really hyperactive in class (after lunch I had study hall and gym/science, depending on what day it was, so nothing big). I don't feel any change after I drink soda, but that's just me. As for obesity, well, I'll just say I'm 5'10 and only weigh 120 lbs, so that's never going to be a concern for me. Never drank diet either, just regular Dr. Pepper.

As for funding, that's not true in most cases. Usually, when schools are running low on funding, the town holds a vote to determine whether or not to increase school funding. Even if it gets declined, the town almost always increases it anyway later down the road. Just what I think, my school still sells soda, diet or otherwise, even though NJ law says we can only sell diet. I've curtailed my soda purchases this year, and some of the points are valid, but I'm just giving my input.

my old school's soda machines were run by the 8th grade class, so it was a source of revenue for the class funds.

I agree. I used to get really thirsty after chamber choir from singing, so I'd buy a soda from the handy vending machine right outside the classroom every day. EVERY DAY. There are over a hundred days in the school year, so that's over a hundred dollars. When I think about that, I feel ridiculous. Plus it just made me thirstier. Now I bring water WITH me. Saves money and actually quenches my thirst.

I agree, I do not personally like, nor drink pop.  So, therefore I do not care that my school banned all of the regular pops and only use diet pop, but then again, now they are advertising brain cancer.

I'm against it too, but that's because I think it tastes revolting.

I don't care. Bannning it is stupid, because people will just drink twice as much at home.

Hahha, pop. That sounds so lame. Call it soda.

But yeah in seriousness, soda shouldn't be purchased in schools. Stick to juices and water, kids!
