Not knowing very much about computers, I offered to do the research and such for her.  She wanted a black macbook so naturally, I compared it to the step down, the wite macbook.  The Specs are almost exactly the same:

Black:
13.3-inch widescreen display

1280 x 800 resolution

2.0GHz Intel Core Duo

512MB memory (2x256MB SODIMMs)

80GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive2

SuperDrive (DVD±RW, CD-RW)

White:

If you upgrade the hard drive on the white MacBook (to 80 gig), it costs $50.  So, if ther is a $200 difference for the base models, and a $150 difference after you even out the specs, where is the cost discrepancy  coming from?  Colored Plastic?

This is ridiculous.

When Apple created black iPods, they sold like hotcakes over the white ones. Apple is simply "milking the cow" since the demand on the black color is high. Whether you think it is selfish or not, Apple is a business company and is simply trying to make money. Again, basic economics that you should've learned in school (Or just plain common sense).
