Right so I have an ASUS A8N5X, AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and an ATI Readon X600, 512MB.

The GFX card will NOT work in the x16 slot. I have been reduced to using the x4 slot. When I try plugging the card into the x16 slot, the computer makes a beeping sound. 1 Beep, then 3 quick beeps.

Anyone know what is wrong and how to fix?

Thank you.

I bet you're lucky you didn't fry it, lol.

More than likely, that card wasn't made for X16 speed slots, or, your mobo doesn't wana work with your card.

Have you tried the card in another PC in a X16 slot?

Its a PCI-E card. So it is supposed to work in an X16 slot.

And no I have not. Any other ideas?

Hmmm, go into your BIOS and check the settings for graphic cards, see if it's set right.

Like the right VRAM size and port speed.

Worse comes to worse I'll throw the Mobo back at ASUS and demand another one. I still have plenty of warrenty left.

I reset my BIOS to the factory defaults and tried the PCI-E x16 slot again. Still the same: "Beeeeep. Beep. Beep. Beep."

I have no idea what the problem is. Anyone got any ideas?

First off, your board doesn't have an x4 slot. It's got an x16 slot, and the rest are x1 (but still PCIe). At least, that's what I got from looking up the board.

My personal opinion is that this is what you get for using ATI (I depise ATI for many reasons).

Have you tested the card in another machine? That'd be the first thing I would do, and if that doesn't work, it might be the motherboard.

It has a black slot which is either x2 or x4.

Anyways, my friend has the exact same board as me and we tried it in his board. We got the same problem. Is there somehow something wrong the backend of the pins of the card? Or could a virus or something defect the x16 slot and refuse its working?

I'm not sure exactly. But we got the same Beeeep. Beep. Beep. Beep. in his board too.

Probably the card itself then- Viruses don't do things like that, since you're getting the beeping right when you turn it on.
I can't find anything linking problems between that board and that card, so most likely the card is defective, especially since you tried it in another system.

Alright. I registered over on the Sapphire boards and see what they say as well. In any last hopes that there is something I could do.

If it is indeed final that the card is screwed, I'll send it back for a exchange.

Thanks guys.
