Try to figure it out before you scroll down and read the answers. And don't look it up on google, either. It took me a while to figure it out. For a while, I was trying to imagine a way to rig two of the switches to overload by shorting it out on the bulb... I shouldve known the answer would be simple.
Imagine you are in a room with 3 switches. In an adjacent room there are 3 bulbs (all are off at the moment), each switch belongs to one bulb. It is impossible to see from one room to another. How can you find out which switch belongs to which bulb, if you may enter the room with the bulbs only once?
All bulbs and switches are identical to the eye.
