DO NOT MEET PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE THAT YOU MET OVER THE INTERNET

Be smart. Play it safe. Don't take the risk.

1) Be aware that people may not be who they say they are on the Internet. An adult could pretend to be a kid your age just to get to know you. Sometimes they can do this over a long period of time to develop your trust.

2) Do not give out or send personal information such as your address, your phone number, where you go to school or photographs to someone that you only know through the Internet unless you have your parent's or guardian's permission. Do not give out any information that you shouldn't give to a stranger in a park, on the telephone or anywhere else.

3) Do not agree to meet people that you have met through the Internet until you check with your parents or guardian, and be sure that your parents or guardian attend the first couple of meetings with you. The first meeting should always be in a public place. Explain to your parents why it is important for them to attend the first couple of meetings for your safety and their comfort.

4) Do not respond to any messages that ask for personal information, messages that are mean or messages that make you feel uncomfortable. You do not have to continue -- report it to a moderator.

Hasn't the thing below each message got through to people? And besides, not restricted to this site, that information is quite right.

I am not trying to be rude so sorry if I may sound it but people are told this all the time by their parents and still do it so what makes you think they are going to listen to you?

The fact is that a lot of teenagers have it in their head that nothing bad is ever going to happen to them and that they know what is best for them and what they can and can not do.

Just like driving and speeding   . But at least this forum has a topic in which people can link someone to, saying what they are doing is wrong. Now they don't have to ramble on and explain from why they think someone shouldn't do such a thing.

I am glad I would never do such a thing.

If this topic protects just one teen from putting themselves in a dangerous situation it is a success.

and here i thought you were in teen dating & relationships looking for a hot date.

and honestly, i couldn't agree more.  well, i don't see why no one can't, it's just teenagers these days don't know how to play it safe enough.  personal information isn't something you give to someone you think you know.
i feel it's common sense...

If you are going to meet people, then at least be smart about it.

I know one of the lawsuits against Myspace is complete bunk, but yeah it is sad what our world has come to.

I think I was 16 the first time I met someone online.  Me and my friends had known the girl for a year or so and invited her to come hang out with us for a weekend.  She was 22 or so at the time, and had her come down to my house.  We hung out at my house for a bit and then we drove around to visit all of my friends that she also knew online.
