when it's with a random person? i mean shit that has to be at least kind of awkward since you get there a night or so before college actually starts and you're sleeping near someone you hardly know. it's easy to make friends but shit it'd suck if you didn't really like them.

It was awkward the first year because it was a freshmen with a whole bunch of graduate students. So they'd drink often...I'm not really much of a talker, so I just stayed out of their way and they stay out of mine. This year I have roommates older than myself, so they're a bit more talkative to me. It will be awkward getting used to their habits and sharing the bathroom (sometimes only ONE) with a few other people. You'll have to talk to them about bills and such.
If you're living on campus, well...I can't help you there. Get an apartment if you want to escape from your roommates easier. You get your own room and everything, and it's usually cheaper to get an apartment anyway.

I was lucky enough to have dorms where you have your own private bedrooms, living in a sweet with four people. However, it's all luck of the draw. I ended up getting several bad roommates before I got a really good one.
My college let's you change rooms 3 weeks into the semester if you and your roommate just can't get along.
