I would like to try my hand at becoming a writer in the future. I did very well in high school, and was a favorite student of my jaded English teacher. When I came to college, I took a class in playwriting in freshman year, a class in which I did very well in (the professor was very enthusiastic about my final work). But since, then I haven't done much writing-wise. I did take an English class during freshman year, but I was quickly reminded why I disliked academic study of literature: reading lots of books you don't like and writing essays filled with mostly BS.

I intend to major in something like polysci so that I won't have to rely on being a writer to earn my living, but I'm worried that while the literary-minded people of my age group are immersing themselves in writing and books, I'm still kind of high school mode and just hoping that sometime in the future, I will suddenly turn into an author.

I'd rather not take anymore English classes, unless it's about an author I really like. I plan to take some creative writing courses in the coming years. Other than that, I think my best bet is to just keep writing a bit every day, and hopefully find a literary circle of friends so that my skills and abilities can grow.
