What do you think is the best brand of computer out there and why? I want to buy a labtop.

It has come down to Dell or HP basically for me.

Suggestions?

If you don't plan on assembling it yourself, one of those big companies is probably the best way to go.  I personally prefer Dell.

Apple, fo' sho'.

You won't get OS X purring along nicely on a beige old box (without trickery).

But if I wanted a Windows box it'd be Dell or Sony, or Lenovo.

HP, unless you're buying a Dell XPS.

If it wasn't a laptop, I'd tell you to build it yourself, but laptops can be tricky.

Which is why I reccomend HP, at least for laptops.

If it's a PC, build it yourself, always. That's one of the many reasons I hate Apple- as far as I can tell, there's no easy way to install OSX on a system you built yourself, and considering how hideously overpriced a system is from them direct...

You can, but it's illegal. Apple haven't licensed OS X to run on anything other than their machines, which is why it is extremely hard. Even if you can, driver will be the hardest part to get through.

Not really that overpriced. Some people want to pay a bit more to get extra. I'd rather pay more for a MacBook that get a Windows laptop that isn't half as well designed and still ultimately runs Windows.

Get the external drive?

That is the one draw back to the Macbook Air, no internal CD/DVD drive.... But you can't complain....Just look at it! It's thin!

It does also have that one software, that lets you use the drives in other computers (via network), both Windows and Apple.
