That's one of the many reasons I hate Apple- as far as I can tell, there's no easy way to install OSX on a system you built yourself

You can, but it's illegal. Apple haven't licensed OS X to run on anything other than their machines, which is why it is extremely hard. Even if you can, driver will be the hardest part to get through.

and considering how hideously overpriced a system is from them direct...

Not really that overpriced. Some people want to pay a bit more to get extra. I'd rather pay more for a MacBook that get a Windows laptop that isn't half as well designed and still ultimately runs Windows.

Laptop design is dependent on the manufacturer, not the OS, and in any case, it's not a "little bit more" it's a LOT more.

As for full systems, Apple's are very overpriced, and the design doesn't even make sense. Example: The top end system has a ridiculously high priced CPU setup, but the rest of the components are rather lackluster, minimizing the effect of a very expensive CPU, and worse, you could get a CPU that's 95% as powerful, for significantly less in most cases, and then you'd have more money to spend on making the rest of the system good, thereby getting back any performance lost on the CPU drop, and much more considering how little you lost anyways.

Macbook Air = U83r 1337

What if he/she wants to use CDs or DVDs when on the go?

Get the external drive?

That is the one draw back to the Macbook Air, no internal CD/DVD drive.... But you can't complain....Just look at it! It's thin!

It does also have that one software, that lets you use the drives in other computers (via network), both Windows and Apple.

No, the huge, gaping, crippling flaw of the MacBook Air is a non-servicable battery. That destroys the very demographic an ultra-portable notebook is supposed to target!

Really?? I thought it was just like the iPod's/iPhone, where you just send it in to get the battery replaced. Or find someone certified to do so (I think Best Buy's Geek Squad is able to).

The point of the user serviceable battery is to be able to change out another one on the go.  5hr approx. (right?) battery life is not long enough to go all day without a recharge for some people, the people the Air is supposed to target.  It is stupid to have a light and portable laptop that is tied down to a max of 5 hours, not the amount that is determined by the amount of batteries available to swap in.

You completely missed my point. It's not what happens when the battery dies. It's the simple fact that you can only use ONE battery. If you don't understand why that's important, then you don't understand the demographic that ultraportables are targeted at.
