Hens lay eggs whether or not a rooster is involved. But if there is no rooster, there will be no chick. Hens laying eggs is pretty much the same as girls getting their period.

Some of my friends have owned hens, but they have never owned a rooster. Thus, their hens have never had sex. They lay some mighty tasty eggs though.
