I got a 2080 on my SAT in Jan. (790 in math and I'm looking into being an engineer) 4.7ish GPA so far in Junior year. ^(b/c of honors and AP classes) (straight A student, besides the occasional B) Lots of service hours and whatnot. Varsity Soccer + Lacrosse (Captain of Lacrosse team twice, and Soccer once) (All Conferance/County player for both) Governor's School nominee in NC for math. (Some fancy pants summer program for the cream of the crop. I didn't make though. If you don't know what I'm talking about then never mind.) I want to know if any of you think I could get a good scholarship to a Division 1 College, athletic or otherwise. I know it's not that much to go by, but I'd like to hear your opinion. And if I sent my scores to any colleges, how long does it usually take them to contact someone? (I live in North Carolina, if that matters)

are you a senior now? usually if you are they'd already contact you about sports. and most colleges have different dates they'll tell you by about scholarships and stuff. you could email the college and ask about it. i'm sure it's not the 1st time they've heard it

Um... Yeah, I'd say that's pretty scholarship worthy!

Wow, make me feel inadequate. Haha. Maybe I should start trying in school...

By the way, will I be contacted if I'm a National Merit Scholar finalist? I think I took it in the fall of '07 (last year). I had a perfect math score but my reading or writing, or what ever the other parts are, weren't that great.

First, you will need to complete the FAFSA. Colleges will not offer you financial aid packages without this being completed and sent to the colleges you are interested in attending. Second, you can contact the financial aid office at the colleges you plan to apply to and find out what the average FA package contains and if there are specific programs you may qualify for, as they may require a separate application process. Third, do not put your eggs in one basket. While you will probably be offered several scholarships and grants at the colleges you apply to, you will also want to use several (not just one!) free scholarship search services to locate other free money. Try ScholarshipExperts.com, SchoolSoup and FastWeb. Once you get your lists, sit down and start applying to 5-10 each month. Like everything associated with college, it's a process and takes time. Don't give up hope if you don't win any scholarships right away, keep applying. The best thing is to look for programs with topics that interest you and require a little work, as these programs have a smaller field of applicants (better odds for you!).
