Hey guys.. i tried posting this in the regular forums but no one seems to be able to give it an honest shot.. i am SURE the smartest members of lw could do it.
-----------
So this is a pretty simple problem. Think it over and post an answer. SHOW WORK FOR POINTS.
if you get it right and show work, points. problem:
there are three cars:a, b, and c.
car a drives for 2 hours at a constant speed of 60mph.
car b drives for 2 hours starting at 50mph and increases 10 mph every hour.
car c drives for 2 hours starting at 50 then accelerating to 70 then decelerating back to 50 (and repeats that pattern) in 10 minute intervals. (ei: from the time he hits 50 once to the time he comes back down, ten minutes pass.)
WHAT CAR GOES THE FURTHEST IN 2 HOURS?
WHAT CAR GOES THE FURTHEST IN 2 HOURS AND 5 MINUTES?
**hint: draw a graph**
good luck
edit: & ps.. i DO know the answer.. we did it in calc2 to show how the answers can be found using antiderivatives and integrals.
