How does tuition work?

I ask this because dont you just pay for the classes you take?

Like lets say tuition was 6000.

Student A takes 4 classes fall semester.

Student B take 2 classes fall semester.

Would they still both pay 6000?  Or would one pay more?  Do you just pay for the classes you take?

How does that work?

There are part-time and full-time tuitions when you go to a University. If you were to go to a Community college then you pay per class.

It's per credit. They usually estimate it by using a standard 16 credit semester.

Yeah, there is a cost per credit hour.  Most classes are three credits, with some classes and most labs being one credit.  The tuition cost for a semester is based on an average amount of credits.  Both students from your example would pay different prices.

Here its just a flat tuition rate... there might be the option of going to school part time for 5th year athletes but besides that I doubt it. You have to take at least four classes, and can take a max of 5.5. Everyone pays the same tuition.

You pay so much for each class and then they add class fees that include supplies and such.

When they give you the average tuition fee, it's usually a full time student taking 18 (might be 16) credit hours. Just make sure to read the fine print.

Look at that college's website and you'll be able to figure out.

It will probably be either per semester hour you take, or a set amount you will pay for however many class hours you take (up to a certain amount of hours).  Along with that comes class/lab fees, books, food/dorm costs, and transportation.  Those costs can be a lot more than you would think... just be prepared.

don't forget the other fees, like athletic fee, student union fee, parking permit, health fee...

I pay about $600 in fees per semester. With 4 classes and books it runs about $2200 without housing or meals (in-state tuition). Students outside Florida pay about 4x that amount.
