I knew he was well educated. Hilo often mumbled French in his sleep, while I lay awake beside him, worrying. Hilo told me once that "Thinking too much about life, only adds to the confusion." I suppose he is right, how can I, just a man, understand life, and why such things happen in life? Who am I to question the Lord's will?
Hilo always kept a small bible in his breast pocket. We used to laugh saying that if anyone tried to shoot him the bible would stop the bullet. He smiled back in a strange way, so strange a way that I cannot fathom what he thought or felt when we told him that.
Hilo once used that same smile, when we hid in the forest, and for hours I could hear them looking, searching, breathing. I was frightened, and Hilo stared back at me with that same smile. He knew something I didn't. Perhaps the Lord saved us that day, or maybe Hilo did. I gave Hilo credit for it, I told him that I would return the favour, and Hilo just smiled. Today, we added Hilo to our list. We carried his body down to the river, and said the final words. Four of us held his body aloft in the water, as it took away sin. Then we let go and watched his body sink initially and then rise as the currents carried him away on his last journey...and I never knew his real name.

its got a good theme behind it but it needs a bit more depth i think. i enjoyed it though :)
