Quote: from merlinman2005 at 10:26 pm on April 2, 2008 - Call me names, because that's a reasonable response, of course. But don't even take a chance to actually think about what I've said. Clearly I thought about what you said, conclusion was as such: You're being an idiot. - 'Word of mouth' means saying 'HEY DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THIS CHARITY?', not 'HEY I DONATED TO THIS CHARITY.' Last I checked, they both do the same thing, idiot. Except 'HEY I DONATED TO THIS CHARITY' further enhances the image of the charity, by showing it that you donated to it. Basically, it's one thing to state basic information, but it makes a larger impact to expand upon that. - You would have known about green tags, if someone would have merely mentioned them to you, regardless of stating whether or not they had used them. And you know this, so don't act as if you don't, claiming that one has to say they bought something in order to inform others of that thing's existence. So you're basically saying that we should only include basic information in conversation? It's called a discussion. Nowadays, we like to add interesting information to them. - You have no idea how much LW has to spare, and don't pretend like you do. Actually, dumbass, I've been here for over 4 years and LiveWire posts its annual income statement every year, including total income, total costs, and how much was left over. I was here when we had a funding crisis because our server was insufficient and we had to have a rally - trust me, I have a good idea of how much is left over. - Also, don't say 'we,' because you don't have a say at all in what LW does. I am a member of livewire, and as such I have the capacity to refer to myself and the LiveWire community as 'we.' If I am referring to a group I am a part of, it is grammatically correct to reference it with 'we.' Bottom line, shut the fuck up and be happy that LiveWire did anything at all.
------- I've done the damage, the damage is done. I pray to God that I'm the damaged one.

Merlin: Perhaps you've forgotten that this is David's JOB? I'm not sure if this is all he does, or if he has something else, but frankly, it doesn't matter one bit. The simple amount of money that David decided to give is enough for me to gain respect for the guy. He didn't have to give anything at all, but he took the time to research how he could help as much and as cheaply as possible - AND he went through with it. That's more than I can say about most people, and most organizations. It's sad that you would actually lose respect after he posted this, but for some reason, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he really doesn't care - and he shouldn't care. You've made a lot of useless arguments here, and this is just another one. As 4est went over, there isn't much money left over after expenses are paid into, and the fact that you spoke down about David's spending without even knowing about the expenses he pays into pretty much shows you're just looking for any reason to have a go at him, no matter how silly. How about you get some knowledge before you try to make an argument? LiveWire's total expenses in '06 went up to $17,818. I'm sorry, but if David felt the need to add $60 dollars on top of that, then that's enough for me. If it isn't for you, then by ALL means, feel free to start your own NON-PROFIT organization and donate away to whatever causes you feel the need to donate to. Until then, obviously no one here wants to hear you complain. '06 expenses: http://img.golivewire.com/statement-of-activities.gif - Keeping in mind this is David's job.

Merlin, Hey fuckface, before you start bitching about how many donations there are compared to how much we donated, take a fucking look at how much livewire ACTUALLY has in excess. After servers, bandwidth, upgrades, etc. there is VERY little left over. Davjs, in the past, has put in his OWN money just to keep LiveWire afloat. As for the 'keeping it secret' thing, that's just stupid. Personally, I do use green tags, and my entire live is carbon nuetral. I'm actually kind of a large environment activist, I'm one of only 7 youth going to large Science conference focusing on the environment in the yukon, I've met Al Gore because of my work, list goes on. And one thing I've learnt is that this stuff spreads through word of mouth - think of how many people have probably read this topic. Now, hopefully, a handful will think 'Hey, what a great idea.' and maybe do the same, or if not, get them thinking about it. Every person counts. If people hadn't mentioned to me that they use green tags to offset their emissions, I would of never known about it. So before you bitch about how much a NON PROFIT organization has donated to something, take a little time to look up LiveWire's actual profits. THERE ARE HARDLY ANY, and most of what we do have goes back into the website. There isn't much in the old LiveWire Piggybank. Get a goddamn clue.
Bravo! *claps* Nice one David! =D I like this idea. Now as others have mentioned, environment theme please Scott?
