We should create an environmentally friendly theme for LW. :)
I agree. =]

And yeah that's really awesome. =]
Glad to see that our donated money is having some use to LW. ;)

Sounds great.

But only $60?

Surely you could afford more then that. ;)

You missed the point!

$60 was what it took to make LW carbon neutral. That is to say that the $60 will be used to reduce energy consumption from something ELSE by the amount that LiveWire uses, effectively negativing LiveWire's energy consumption.

Quote: from marshmellowman at 5:29 pm on April 3, 2008 How is that environmentally friendly? Turning the screen black uses no more power than it does to light up any colour, that is unless you still use an old CRT vacuum tube screen. LCDs use the same power regardless of the colours.

I found an article about that on Wall Street Journal and the experts even said that although it may have minimal effect on how much energy is used, it is still something to show later on.

"Even if the energy savings are small, they are representative of the need for each of us to start taking small steps to save energy," Blackle's Dr. Heap (who holds a doctorate in exercise physiology) told me in an email. "My hope is that by setting Blackle as their home page people will be reminded of this need to save energy each time they go online." Similar wording appears on Blackle's "about" page.

And if anything, we should start some sort of campaign such as creating an informational topic about how to save energy in your own home- the easy way.

I'm just throwing more ideas out there for you guys. Even though it may just be $60... that doesn't mean we have to stop there. David is spreading the awareness of what you could do to help out. It is just the first step to   a greener tomorrow.

*Sorry about that... seemed like none of my livetags worked for some odd reason.

The link isn't working. The quote ruined it :( Anyhoo, the idea is that the backlight in LCDs are on even if the transistor is not activating any colour. LCD's are quite efficient anyway (the panel, not the backlight). If anything we should replace the backlighting in them with LEDs as they use less power.

Yeah, I do agree. I'm a bit of an environmentalist, and I have no work to do this weekend so I might start one.  Indeed, $60 is only a start, you can do so much more.

I'm sorry (not really), but 60 dollars is NOTHING compared to what the LW members 'donate' to the site itself.

Are you expecting a pat on the back for this measly little gift?

How about donating 60 dollars per week? Or even per month?

I donated 30 dollars every two weeks (every paycheck) to various foundations and charities.

60 dollars, ONCE, is a paltry amount, and should have been given in secret, instead of acting as a reason to prance around and call oneself 'green'.

This is just stupid.

WHO CARES how much is donated?! Really, the site could probably afford to give out more money, but $60.00 is pretty good too. It doesn't matter how much money you donate, the thought of at least donating SOMETHING is all that matters. Sounds to me like you fit the perfect poster child for those who believe if you don't donate over a certain amount of money, it's not worth donating at all. The whole purpose of "donating" is NOT to shell out what you can really afford to donate (and yea, this site probably could donate a hell of a lot more than $60.00) but to just give because you want to improve something, to be generous, and to care about a specific thing. But HEY, $60.00 is better than ZERO dollars.
So besides bitching and making the unnecessary comments like you are doing, just be thankful that davjs is doing something like this. He doesn't HAVE to do it, but he did it because he thought it'd be a great thing for LiveWire.
