College A:
Private, liberal arts school. about 3000 people. in a small town, but is gorgeous. it's 40,000 a year, and i might get a 5000 a year scholarship, plus around 60,000 my family has saved for me. the school has a minimal party scene, which fits me perfect. 4 year graduation rate at 98%. if i were to go there i would go for psych and german (which i never want to give up). downside which is killing me, is that i'll have to work 2 jobs in the summer to pay for my personal expenses. 5 hours from home

College B:
Typlical party school, public. 40,000 people including undergrad and grad students. i have family in the city, and my best friend is going. almost nobody graduates in 4 years, 5-6 is typical. i would major in communication disorders, with no german, since i'd like to get out in 4-5 years. upside, i most likely would have money left over after college, and wouldn't have to work as hard this summer. 2 hours from home.

so what do you think? i'm not a partier, and i don't want to give up german. but i'm torn because of cost... and loans are not an option for me, and we don't qualify for financial aid

OPTION B (if i could vote 50 times I would)

A.  You don't want to go to a college the size of an average HS.  Just trust me on this.

B.  Don't spend that much money on college.  You're gonna be broke enough as it.

You know... I got accepted into a school that would cost my 26000 on tuition alone, each year... The cost really got to me, but my parents and family?  All pushed me to go.  It's a great school, and it can offer me some great opportunities in the future.  It also had the majors I was seeking...

Ask yourself this, what do you want from life?  German is a passion of yours, and I don't think you should give that up if you truly enjoy it.  That being said, you could probably go to the other school, and take courses at another community college to take those German classes.

I would personally go with A.  It sounds like that seems to be your ideal school, and it truly sounds like where you want to go.  You don't want to look back and regret not putting in the extra money to go to a school that could provide you the best resources, right?

That being said, I took the year off and I'm working three part time jobs this year to get some money.  I'm also working on getting financial aid, and will deal with student loans if I have to.  I feel bad that my dad has such a large cost... but honestly, when he found out I got accepted into that school, he was so happy :).  I think thse jobs over summer would be worth it :).  It'll give you work experience if you don't already have it as well.  That's my opinion anyway... just seems like the choice that you'll regret the least.

Do what you want to learn. Because nothing sucks your soul than trying to do something you hate.

I chose a university because of rational logical major reasons when I didn't even really care for the major and I hated it. I'm changing my major and if that means staying another year than I dont care because I'm doing what I love.

i pick B mainly because of the cost. You can always take German at the community college and I really don't think you will excel at a school where you have to work your ass off to stay at.

Which major do you want to do most? I mean, one has Psych but the other apparently doesn't. Nor does it have German. That's a big deal.

On that note, private schools can pretty much do whatever they want in the way of money. I'm going to transfer to a school that costs about $35,000 a year and I just got my financial aid package a few days ago. Only $11,000 is unaccounted for, the other $24,000 is either taken care of by loans or grants. I think it comes to about half and half, $12,000 in loans and $12,000 in grants. So you don't really know what you'll get until they give you your package.

Also, you have to take the school's reputation/quality into account. Which is better? Sounds like it might be the private school but I can't be sure, I don't know which schools you're comparing.

If I had to pick based off of what you posted, I'd say A.

But...why would you have to work two jobs to pay for your personal expenses? What all are you planning on spending? And if you're planning on spending a lot, why not just get a job while in school? You could probably get one right on campus.
