If you've ever read The Bible, you've most likely read Revelations, or basically, whats supposed to happen when the world ends. This is one of the most difficult parts of the book to decode, since most thoughts in this part are symbols of something completely different. For example, when God tells John to write down what he is hearing, he tells him to write seven letters to the seven churches, which are represented by lampstands. I think these seven lampstands are symbols of seven churches, one in each Continent. But I have no idea which Continent each belongs to. Then there is the city of Babylon, the downfall of The Prostitute, the 1000 year War, and finally what happens in the end. What do you make of The Revelations?

A book of creepy fairy tales. I don't really think it means anything. Someone had some extra time and a hallucination then BAM revelations.
------- I couldn't think of anything else.

Revelations bored me. I like Ecclesiastes and James' Letter.

The Revelations is purely symbolic and should not be taken literally - just like the rest of the bible. The non-believers of the world are not going to eat by birds swooping down from heaven or such.

Yes, it is mostly symbolic but it is supposed to explain somewhat what will happen at the end of the world or the Apocalypse.

According to most Christian scholars, the seven lampstands stand for the seven original churches. Those seven original churches will come to symbolize the Church as a whole. The kind of church that's symbolized by the Laodicean church will become dominant in the world, and this will be the final straw. The Laodicean church is the church that is well-meaning and kind, concerned about how its actions appear to the outside world, instead of being concerned about what God thinks about what it does.

I dont really understand why he went to the bother of giving us all symbols we're never going to fully understand, why couldnt we just be told plainly and simply whts gonna happen and be fully prepared? That is one of my big difficulties with religion, why arent we just told precisely whats gonna happen? I mean that John guy, could of been a mad man for all we know, tripping out on drugs or something. Ive read bits of the book of revelations and found it very interesting, the lamb openign the seals, and the beasts with all those heads, and one was wounded. But why arent we just told whats going to happen in simple language without any symbols or hidden meanings?
It could be that we were told exactly what was going to happen, but John, being a first century man, didn't understand what a lot of the things he saw were, and so came up with rough approximations that would've been understood by his contemporaries.

I haven't read Revelations yet, but when I do, I'll be sure I come back and post my opinion. I'm only half way through Genesis, and I really want to read Revelations, Luke, John, Corinthians I and II, and Timothy.

The Bible, or any other religious text for that matter, is nothing more than allegorical rants, by a few, either divinely enlightened, or severely demented, historical figures. So, wake up and smell the incense. When a core character, such as Jesus, is barely documented in secular history, how can we not see, that the entire weave is nothing more than just that. If God really wanted to tell us something, there're a million simpler, and better ways to do it. To assume all this as philosophical guidance is one thing, but to accept it as divine revelation, is pitiful naivete.
