Interpretation of Dreams

Generally speaking I think all dream analysis is a philosophical error we make about ourselves.

for example, one re-occuring theme of my dreams is a fight, in which my life or something important is on the line, and I find out that, despite my training (karate, Judo, Aikido, Jui-jitsu) I'm unable to defend myself.

what I might interpret from this is something along the lines of "my sub-concoius" is telling me about a fear I have, the fear that one day I will have to fight, and on the day I find out my fancy head level kicks and Ogoshi's (hip throws) are fucking useless.

the error is two fold;

firstly it is I (concoius I) that is interpreting the dream at wake, naturally, I would interpret it in a way that makes sense to me....in a way that appeals to my person

secoundly, this thought, is something that I have known, it was not "revealed to me" by a dream, let us not confuse causation in dreaming....

oh, and thirdly, Read up on "confirmation Bias"

so in short, we give our dreams meaning, and if they ever tell us anything, it is what we already know.... (e.g you know if you want sex or not...you dont dream and then think "well I dreamt it, so I must want sex even though I don't think I do"....unless you are a complete idiot/belive dreams are callings.)

That's why having a trained professional to help you understand your dreams can be useful, to hely you come to the right conclusions.

That or, There are no "right" conclusions to be had.

as far as I'm concerned, Dream analysis = pseudo-sceince.

I don't think they mean nothing, and I do believe they can be interpreted- however, you can't always use a dream interpretation website. Dreams are a reflection of your subconscious thoughts and feelings, and in order to interpret them you have to be able to understand what these dreams mean to you. Dream dictionaries are just a way to interpret possible symbols in a dream, but we don't know if symbology is always accurate.

If you understand what your dream is trying to tell you, then yes, you should act differently in order to fix whatever your brain is dwelling on.

I believe that dreams can be interpreted. -shrugs-
I mean, it's basically been believed that the last thing you think about is what you dream about.
Dreams also uncover the subconcious part of your mind as well.

I keep on seeing this word "sub-concoius" being thrown arround....

can anyone prove to me that it exists?

Maybe, its just an instance of "bad faith", one deying ones own freedom of will, and thought.

No, I do not believe dreams "mean" anything.

During the day, we are exposed to so much stimuli that the brain often does not consciously recognize. At night, during REM sleep, the brainstem sends electrical signals through certain areas of the brain, stimulating them. These areas emit information to the part of the brain responsible for dreaming and "communicate" what was seen or experienced during the day.

That is all.
