ok so i show horses and there is always this other barn there @ these shows. They call a crop a pony beater and they r always hitting their ponies. If the pony wont jump the fence they will smack it and yell @ it until it jumps from a halt....when this happens they mostly end up crashing through the fence....what should be done?

They're using crops during the show?

Bad form, that.

If there is a supervisor/leader, alert him/her to what is happening. They should take care of it so that you won't have to worry about it.

If there is no leader, just alert the judges, and they should be disqualified. If nothing else, alert the proper authorities.

Let someone know... But at the same time, the crops don't really hurt the horses, you know that right?

are they allowed to use crops? If not, you should report them to the authorities of the showe, judges, etc.

Crops arent...bad for horses necessarily, a lot of people use them, it is not illegal, but it is illegal to abuse an animal, if it is excessive, you should notify animal control.

There's nothing wrong with them using a crop during the show, but them beating there horses with it is. You really should talk to a judge, and see if they would talk to those riders afterwards.

I've always hated running into people like that at shows.
It really ticks me off.

Actually.. there is nothing at all wrong with them using crops at shows. However, I do believe that there is some sort of rule about abuse like that. I have seen a lot of people abuse their horses at shows (I barrel race), and when the horse doesn't behave just as they want they start beating the hell out of it.

Although, I can understand if the horse misbehaved and was in need of a form of discipline-- in which case I would have gotten off and backed the horse up until he listened. (Horses generally hate to back up so it is a good form of discipline)

However, I have used a whip (not a whip, but... its not a crop either I just can't think of the damned word at the moment)on occasion and nothing bad happened.

But I think what you need to do is inform the judges of the behavior or whoever is in charge on the grounds. Because that does not sound right.

no see these riders ride really badly-seriously i dont know how they stay on....but the horse just cant stand it anymore i guess(and in the classes they ride in they cant use crops) and the horse really does nothing wrong. The rider isn't giving it enough leg. the people at the show don't care that much b/c it is the largest barn that comes and rides(therefore more $$$ for them).....really sad actually

Oh my...

Its funny... I see the same thing with what I do. People that cannot ride or just do not know how to handle their horse. Or... they have horses that are too powerful for them. It amazes me how they stay on most of the time. Wonder if they know some secret the rest of us don't?

Yeah, that is sad that they're more interested in the money then the welfare of the horses.
