I was on a psychiatric ward for a month. I have hardly and memory of it. It was helpful in that I just needed some time out and that's what I got. Recovery takes a long time and you need to put the effort in

Personally, I've been in a psychiatric unit twice for a period of a year with anorexia. I can honestly say that it was the most emotional year of my life with the highest highs and the lowest lows. A lot happened in hospital and I made loads of amazing friends but i missed out on so much in life and spent so much of my time worrying about calories and exercise. I would never want to go back to hospital as it brings back bad memories and I don't fancy being followed around 24 hours a day anymore either- not nice when you want to go for a pee in private believe u me.

I was quite lucky that my ana/mia never got to out of hand. I was mainly in for depression

I watched an incredible documentary last night . I don't know if anyone here can see TV Ontario, or if it's on again. But it's called "Thin". http://www.tvo.org/TVOsites/WebObjects/TvoMicrosite.woa?b?8976311204509645000

Shadowcry, your point about wasting so much time and losing out on so much of life happening while you were counting calories was brought up a few times by patients in the documentary. It was heartbreaking to realise how difficult it was for some of the girls and women to stop their self destruction even after treatment. But it was also wonderful to see some of them get back control of their lives instead of their food intake.

I think you have a wonderful depth of courage.
