so my friend is bulemic, and sometimes its awkward when we go out to eat together. im not sure how many times she pukes like per day or whatever, but its not like she goes to the bathroom after we go out to eat. the thing is that she gets really defensive when i talk about healthy eating. for instance, i was remarking about how when i eat hard-boiled eggs i only eat the whites and throw out the yolk, cause thats where all the calories and fat is, and she gets mad or something. has this happened to anyone else?

I don't think you necessarily have to censor yourself, just make sure that she understands those comments aren't being made towards her...unless of course, they are. In that case, I agree that reinforcement from the outside only makes it worse.

purging can occur both after binge episodes and regular meals...it's different for different people.

to be bulimic you have to binge before you purge - i mean binge as in the real definition of the word, not just what someone percieves to be a binge.

if you purge after eating a normal meal/snack (aka nothing medically considered a binge) AND meet the criteria for anorexia (including bmi under 17.5) you have purging type anorexia.

anything else is generally classified as ED-NOS.

Im a bulimic and if you dont find the root of your problem you can never get better but as a friend you should sit her down and talk to her as a concerned mate not as a parent because wen my mates tells me about my eating disorder I get defensive beacuse some of them dont even know what they r talking about
