I believe the question should be different: who exploits their intellect better? And here, I think men win again. men have been the authors of the most famous books (please spare me, Harry Potter fans),  have discovered the most fascinating secretes, have developed Mathematics, physics, geography, and most subjects etc.

Do you know why they developed all those things? Because back then, women were thought of as inferior, and somehow I doubt they were even allowed to read. They cooked, cleaned, sewed, took care of children, etc.

I would definitely have to say that women are more emotionally superior, and at a younger age. Men just seem to develop [mentally - especially in the maturity department] slower than girls.

As for the endurance of pain, I'd like any man who has squeezed a 7lb bag of flesh and bones out of an opening the size of a vagina to let me know how good it feels.

That's a cheat answer though.

For thousands of years in almost every single "race", women were thought of as inferior and not allowed to excel. Most weren't even allowed to go to school. Would Shakespeare be as great if he were illiterate? What about Beethoven? If they couldn't even put pen to paper in any form, could either of them done so well?

There are many famous women authors coming up now and in the past 100-200 years or so. Charlotte Bronte, Emily Bronte, Margaret Atwood, Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen, Maya Angelou, Louisa May Alcott, Emily Dickinson, Mary Shelley and more. Just because you may be ignorant to probably most of these doesn't mean that they don't exist.

Did you also know that women have invented:
- Submarine Telescope
- Submarine Lamp
- Night Signal / Pyrotechnic Flares
- Safety Stops on factory machines
- The machine that makes flat bottomed paper bags
- Wheelchair Elevator
- Ultrasheer Pantyhose
- Fluting Iron
- Snugli baby carrier
- Self Cleaning House
- 100% transparent or invisible glass
- Common Business-Oriented Language or COBOL, now the most widely used computer business language in the world
- leukemia-fighting drug 6-mercaptopurine
- anti-fungal antibiotic drug Nystatin
- Kevlar
- Patent for the isolation of Stem Cells
- catheter shield
- Geobond
- windshield wipers
- disposable cellphones
- APGAR scoring for newborns
- dishwasher
- CPR mannequin

and many more.

History has shown that men have excelled more in pretty much everything. Coincidence?

For a good long part of history, our society in this world has been paternal.  Therefore women could not get the same amount of education so that they could not write the most famous books in history, or invent more, better things.  Not until recently have women been given more rights so that they could do all of those things.  Therefore I personally think of both sexes being equal.  Just because men are physically stronger doesn't make them superior either.  Each sex has it's own set of weaknesses and strengths so then females are better of taking care of the home, and the children because they have been like that for a long time.  I don't think that people should compare women to men, because we are all equal, except for the fact that men have a penis and testes, and women have a vagina.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but I'd have to say men and women are both strong/weak.  How many men do you know that have the abiliaty to shove a baby out of their genitals?

or a good long part of history, our society in this world has been paternal.

And why is that so? Why have women consistently been on the bottom, despite being the genetic and memetic gatekeepers in every society? Why on earth did they need men to grant them equal rights?

fedora:

How many men do you know that have the abiliaty to shove a baby out of their genitals?

How many women do you know of who have fought in numerous wars and had their bodies mangled by swords, spears, shrapnel and gangrene? How many are involved in hazardous jobs and sports?

If the 'women have a higher pain tolerance' generalisation were true, logic follows that they would make better soldiers than men. Reality has yet to show anything of the sort.

Rab:

Men just seem to develop [mentally - especially in the maturity department] slower than girls.

And humans develop slower mentally than dogs. A dog will be at it's cognitive peak at what... 3 years?, while a toddler of three years may still be struggling with the concept of object permanency. Hell, it takes humans 24-25 years to reach cognitive maturity.

I think participating in war, dangerous jobs, and tough sports fulfils the males need to let out anger and prove himself to others.  Women usually don't have the need to do those things in the same way.  Men traditionally hold the role of being the physical protector and the violent half of a couple.   That's what testosterone does to the body.

My main argument like I'm sure others have mentioned already is that men and women have different bodies and minds which allow them to excel in certain areas.  So, generally speaking, I think the sexes are equal.  One is usually better at one thing than the other.

About the "women let emotion cloud there judgement" statement, wtf? Show me one bad decision a woman made out of emotion and I'll show you ten that a man made out of emotion.

Ten that a man made out of emotion may include beating someone because they made the man angry.

Male physical superiority has been apparent since time immemorial, and now, studies (from University of California - Irvine) are proving male mental superiority as well. Although heavily cloaked in politically correct terminology, the study simply finds that male brains are engineered for greater inductive thought, while female brains perform better deductively. But we've known this all along.

Existence have placed the male in the front lines, to hunt and gather food, protect and shelter his family, and discover this world, to further evolve, and improve the quality of life. The female only plays the companion role, which logically leads to the propagation of the race. The physiological differences between the genders, are clearly meant to suit their intended roles.

Over time, due to severe exploitations by their superior counterparts, women have been forced to break out of this, otherwise comfortable, arrangement, and have unfortunately gone overboard, in trying to prove total equality. From chromosomal and hormonal make-up, to obviously hindering physical characteristics, the female of our species, have not been engineered for extreme performance. If compared pound for pound, between two equally matched male and female subjects, the results will be, hands-down, indisputable.

From the get-go, men are not bogged down by large breasts, broad hips, menstruation, pregnancy, breast-feeding, and a plethora of exclusively feminine woes. They impregnate, and are on their way, while millions of their sperm, happily make their merry ways, deep into the female womb, where their offspring will eventually develop, be born, and then nurtured, by these impregnated mates.

To this very day, male superiority remains evident, albeit heavily contested, by an overzealous bunch of women, who just cannot accept their place in this world, further exasperated by a wimpy bunch of border-line males, ready to cede their god-given leadership.

Bottom line: Real gender equality is but a pipe-dream.

i dont think it neccessarily comes down to gender actually.

like for instance, left handed people have been shown to have faster reactions and cope better in high stress situations by scientists in Oz.

there are far too many factors affecting every individual to be able to earmark one gender at "better"

it also brings up the whole nature vs. nurture thing, with regard to genders being treated differently, i.e boys get taught football and girls barbies

It would be biased no matter who you are. However physically males get the vote, stock we have more horsepower (heh). But as far as history goes, because of womens inferior physical and sometimes mental strength men rose to the top, they did not have an equal oppurtunity to the rest of us males.

I disagree. Yes, I believe men are physically more capable in general. However, mentally I disagree. I believe strongly that in general women are mentally superior to men.

The only reason men have a longer list of historical achievements is because women were and in some cases still are repressed by men.

I believe as time goes on women will prove this. We must remember that it really has not been very long that women have been capable of showing their true potential.

lol...this is the kind of response that makes women want to never have children and be head of a major corporation. Which I do.

However, I try not to let my gender get into these kind of debates. Honestly polls are bull and I don't believe it can be determined in this day and age if the male or female brain is more capable. I can only give my opinion, which of course is biased. Few women will say a man is superior and vice versa.
