So I want to change the OP of my macbook to linux. Is it possible to do a complete overhaul or am I going to be forced to dual-boot?

If you're asking questions like this...are you sure you know enough about any of this to attempt it? Are you talking about a newer mac with dualboot Windows/Mac? You've got to be ALOT more specific.

Also, in times of need such as this, Google is your friend.

Why did you get a mac if you don't like the OS? If you got an Eee PC or some other open sourcish model for a lot less that you can put linux on it. Really the whole point of getting a mac is because it works so well because Apple makes the hardware and software. You do realise that linux and OS X are built on similar technologies, i.e. Unix/BSD etc, and that they look very similar and at the front end, act in a very similar way? Why change? I really think you should reconsider.

I got a mac because I wanted to try it out. But because Im a pc guy, none of my programs work. I havent tried it yet, but from what I hear, linux is the best OP.
I guess I should dual boot since a total overhaul seems pointless. Now I just need a dual-boot thats free

But on linux none of your programs will work either...

It's not really my place to question. In short, dual booting linux on a mac is tricky.
