Under what circumstance would you break a promise?  Like if you promised to keep a secret, is there any time in which you'd break that promise?

I'm not asking for the moral, generic answer, i want what YOU would REALLY do.

(thanks)

It depends on the importance of the secret, the severity of the situation, and the outcome that revealing it would bring.

Since every one of those can be different, it's going to be different every time.

I also believe it'll be different in every circumstance. If the person I promised to keep the secret for was in danger, I would brake that promise and try to help. If the person I promised to keep the secret for was doing something highly illegal and/ or putting others in danger, I would like to think I'd break that promise.

Truly though, that's an incredibly difficult question to answer. There are millions of different scenarios that I could be presented with, so who knows how I'd react in each.

I will point out that making that decision to break a promise will always be difficult, even if it's justified and whatnot. I think it just depends on the situation, and what the results of it all will be.

I would only tell a secret if I thought keeping it would be dangerous either to the person who confided in me or someone else. Same sort of guidelines as professionals apply for me.

It depends on the circumstance, if a person's life is at risk , I wouldn't even think about it twice. Life is precious, and I wouldn't like to  live with the idea that somebody's life was in my hand's and I just ignored the whole thing.

I can't really answer this because, well it depends on the particular;ar case scenario.

In a moment of instinct I wouldn't be able to keep the promise if someone where risking there life. It's hard to say what would of been said, yet, I'd watch the person closely and tell someone I trusted.

I could keep a secret if it was self harm, as bad as that sounds. Yet, with that situation itself being said I'd watch them closely until I saw them dropping lower in their mood.
