Should everyone in america speak english (including all illegals and citizens)? I understand that english is a hard language to grasp but everyone should know at least enough to communicate. It would make a lot of things easier. What do u think?

Well, I don't mind if people speak Spanish, or any language for that matter, but since English is the official language of the U.S, everyone should speak it.  Our ancestors had to drop their language and learn it, so why can't new immigrants do the same?

But we should be able to speak whatever else we want, too. I get extremely irritated by people who bitch when we don't speak English in public, even if it's in a private conversation.

It'd be as if I went to Mexico and demanded for service in English and refuse to speak Spanish. It's arrogant and rude, not to mention quite ridiculous.

Don't you think it'd be pretty difficult to function as a resident/citizen if the government could only communicate with you in English?

Of course it'd be very difficult, but it isn't the government's job to make sure that everybody speaks English.  Those who can't speak English always have the option of getting a translator to translate what was necessary for them if they wished, but they should not expect the government to offer them a translator at no charge to them.  They're free to speak whatever language they want and refuse to learn whatever language they want, but in the United States, the lingua franca is English, so if you don't know English, you can't expect the society to cater to your inability to speak it.
