If you're trying to gain muscle... no you most likely will not lose weight and will only gain muscle, if you're trying to just lose weight, use lighter weights with more reps and do cardio... no matter what though you should do some cardio because if your body cant supply nutrients efficiently then it doesn't help you any.

You will not lose weight from weight lifting. You will actually gain weight and muscle! My advice start easy and work hard. You will have to feel some pain be tired but it will be worth it when you become fit and strong!

You won't lose weight, your fat will turn to muscle. My tip is get use to the core workouts, like bench pressing, squats, deadlifts, and military press.

Fat does not turn into muscle. Yes you have the potential to 'lose weight' if by weight you mean bodyfat, as building muscle increases metabolism. My advice to you? Get a personal trainer.
What are you talking about? If he were to lift weights, it would be to gain muscle, lifting will not make him lose fat. If he just wants to lose fat he should just do come cardio workouts and not lift. Fat does turn to muscle if he lifts, it is much easier for a fat person to gain muscle than a skinny person.
You asshat. What do you think lifting weights requires? Energy. What does the body store energy as? Fat. Second, muscle is active tissue, it requires energy just to maintain itself. Gaining muscle increases your metabolism, and your body needs MORE CALORIES per day. Hey, guess where your body stores calories?? And fat does NOT turn into muscle. Amino acids are COMPLETELY different to the fatty acids that make up a triglyceride. Your statement that a fat person gains more easily than a skinny person is based on what exactly? Oh, nothing, ok. I'm a qualified personal trainer, so don't argue with me unless you actually know what you are talking about.

You are a qualified personal trainer, can you help me gain muscle then, lol? I am skinny, and it seems like no matter what I do I can't gain any weight. Also, what are the best workouts to get abs? Post edited at 7:02 pm on Mar. 28, 2008 by Keltic Fighter

At the expense of a thread hijack, sure. Abs are made in the kitchen. Some of the guys I know with the best abs don't do any real ab exercises. Its just about getting your bodyfat down low. Therefore the best exercise for visible abs is cardio. Nutrition is the other flipside, you need to eat if you want to gain muscle, but need to be careful to avoid putting on some excess bodyfat. Eat lots of protein, lean meats, eggs, cottage cheese are all good. Some good exercises to focus on are bench press, military press, lat pull down, squats/leg press and dead lift. If you want me to throw together a full plan I can. Shoot for 4 sets of 10 reps with a decent weight, the last few reps shud be a struggle to get out. As I don't know your age or your current training schedule, this is as far as i'll go at the moment.

I am 18 and I really don't have a training schedule, I just do a little here and there. So if you want to, can you throw one together for me? lol. Also I heard that doing a lot of cardio is bad if you want to gain muscle. Is this true?

A lot of cardio can hamper muscle gains, but its weather you want size or definition more in the short run. Would you be able to work out 4 days a week? If yes, what are the best days for you.
