Terrorists kill people for different reasons. People twist religion and interpret different ways.
Some followers of Islam feel that the violent punishments inflicted by Allah on the non-believers can be carried out vicariously, through them.
Some think it is their responsibility to get every other soul to believe their views, and consider violence a usable method in attaining those ends.
But 'some', in no way means 'all', and you shouldn't judge a religion based on the actions of its followers.

Also, terrorism doesn't have to involve killing, or death. That is just a byproduct of the true intent, which is usually to cause a lot of damage.
As a child, I was taught that terrorism ALWAYS had a political motive.
It was George Bush who changed that definition in my eyes.
O, if you haven't read The Unabomber's Manifesto, I suggest you do. It's very good, and not at all like you would expect from someone called a 'terrorist,' most likely.
