Is "Virtualization" a program name or do you mean it as the method for emulating an OS?

I use VMWare server for my virtualization needs.

I do too. It supports a range of Windows, Linux, Novel Netware, Sun Solaris, and a couple of others like FreeBSD... OS's. Quite good for educational use, because as long as you have enough RAM to run it you don't have to have a completely different computer to work on.

I use VMware Workstation to run Windows XP, Ubuntu x64 and BackTrack 2 on my Vista machine.  It's one sweet solution.

Or you can use Microsoft Virtual Server which is free and works pretty well to. I have used both of them and while I do like VMware more if your just going to be messing around with software or OS's Microsoft gets the job done pretty good.

don't know what it is

Virtualization is basically a way to run an operating system within another OS.  So, say you have windowsXP.  By using a virtualization program such as VMWare, you can install a linux distro in this program, and be able to use linux inside windows, without having to set up a dual-boot computer.
