Whoa! Jim thought. That was a crazy dream. Jim stretched and yawned and went to get out of bed, but he found that he still had a throbbing headache. He decided to lie down and flipped on the boob tube.
"In other news, another random disappearance. This time, little Stacey Weismann! The thirteen year old was last seen fishing on the West Pier. This is the third disappearance this month, and many people are saying there's a pattern to all these disappearances... police are working around-the-clock to solve the case."
Click.
Jimmy heard the story many times. It was the hottest gossip around town.
Three beautiful girls, Jimmy didn't know any of them, had gone missing. Everyone was calling out the idea that the girls had all been fishing. And loudly proclaimed it was at night time. This town is small and very village-like, so everyone knows everyone's business.
The other day, Jimmy witnessed Tommy the Policeman asking one of Jimmy's class mates if he'd heard of Stacey having any enemies.
Jimmy thought it was ridiculous asking a thirteen year old girl if she had any enemies, but then remembered all those moves he saw where a plan kids had to get revenge on a nemesis backfired and exploded in their face.
He heard a faint rap on his door, followed by the creak which told him someone was entering the room.
Even with a pounding headache, Jimmy felt the loving presence of his mother, just magically falling on his skin. He took a deep breath and inhaled the love. And the chocolate chip cookies?
Jimmy looked over his shoulder, and saw the golden plate of homemade goodness.
Drained emotionally and ailing physically, despite how good the smell and his mother made him feel, the most he could do was offer a smile. The fever made even that hurt.
