For instance, look at poor students versus rich students. We all know that statistically, lower income students tend to not do as well in school as higher income ones. Alot of this can probably be atributed to parents who don't push so much towards educational goals and instead toward things like technical prep. Higher income student's parents want them to grow up like them and push them harder.

There are always flukes though. My dad grew up with 3 brothers and sisters, all from different dads, a single mom, and in a very poor section of town. Even without college he ended up very successful. His brothers and sister, on the other hand, all basically are repeating the life their mother led, which is sad. They all are VERY smart but only my dad managed to get motivated enough (for whatever reason) to actually work to make something of himself.
