College Forum:

I've always wanted to go into the business field..  I guess I wanna be that person giving people 30 year mortgages and the first 10 years are all interests...haha..
Anyways, for those of you that are going into the business carreer...  I don't know if I want to do Accounting, Financing, International Business, etc...

So tell me all you know about them!

I'm not sure what year in college you are in but the fields you mentioned (Accounting, Finance, International Business, etc.) are all somewhat related, but at the same time very broad. For example, there are so many different type of things you can do at an accounting firm - tax, audit, advisory, etc. In finance, you can work in sales/trading, investment banking, private equity, venture capital, investment management, etc. International Business is even broader as it could mean a lot of things.

I'd say a job in accounting would be a very stable one. Good starting pay (50-60K), very consistent and not as affected by the market, and good hours (usually only busy during the spring - tax season). If you get your CPA, that'll help boost your career and you can maybe even start your own practice.

In finance, you can make the big bucks - 6 figure starting income; however, the market is not performing well right now and bonuses are going to relatively lower. I'm sure you heard of the Bear Stearns buyout. But this could be a good field to get into, especially right out of college because you will learn a lot and most of the skill sets you develop will be transferrable to other jobs in business.

Well, hope this helps and good luck to ya!
