Microsoft is putting up a hefty bid for ailing Yahoo, over $44 billion US, who's #2 in the internet search business. If they succeed in acquiring Yahoo, do you think MS will eliminate the "Yahoo" name (like Adobe did with Macromedia) or keep it as some sort of visble subsidary?

They will assimilate it. People usually go for the brands, and since the brand is world know, they might want to keep it.

LOL. Of course they'll eliminate it, it's microsoft. If they don't, they'll at the very least put their own spin on the name somehow.

It will be gone.

I dont thing the FTC will allow it though. That would give MS a monopoly in the search engine business.

Bill Gates eats companies.  Hotmail was a company all its own until Microsoft bought it. Now it is MSN. Another thing...a couple years after Microsoft bought Hotmail they banned adult groups and sold them off to another company. I suspect that if Gates buys Yahoo all those thousands of adult groups will suddenly be homeless too.

Not gates, microsoft. Is gates even still with the company? I heard that he was quitting.

Extremely unlikely they'll eliminate it. It's one of the most recognizable names on the web--and that's one of its biggest assets.
