I'm having trouble understanding whether you are counterargueing with that remark or agreeing with me. If we just let all our dogs and cats onto the streets the majority would just starve to death because are used to being hand-fed and given shelter.

Counter-arguing.
We freed the slaves even though they were not 'ready' for it, why not do the same for the animals?
And you were calling me a hypocrite? I stand against all those things.
Consider the nature of the enslaved. They will most always rise against their oppressors at some time - if domesticated animals and farm animals really wanted freedom - why don't they rise up against their owners?
Okay, I understand the slavery counterarguement now.
I agree that slaves were not freed correctly, and this was a social problem, because the southerners were bitter for being forced to free slaves they made it as difficult as possible for the slaves to adapt to the new society.
I do not think this is a completely valid arguement because, for example, cats have been domesticated for roughly 10,000 years, and in that period of time they have lost many of their wild instincts and have evolved as a species to adapt to human domestication.
