Do you judge topics (well...eHelps) by their title? Do you read all eHelps, or do you just browse the titles and click on ones that sound interesting?

What types of titles or words make you more likely to read the eHelp, which make you less likely to read them?

-------
So when you're happy (Hurray!), or sad (Aw!),
Or frightened (Eeek!), or mad (Rats!)
An interjection starts a sentence right.

The author influences me the most, usually. If it's a name I recognize, I will click it more often than not, as far as topics in the forums/ehelps go.

When it comes down to those that I don't have that predisposition to, I typically open all the ehelps, and read a bit of each. If it doesn't 'hit' me in the first bit, I stop reading. If the ehelp sounds like something I actually know something about, then I keep reading, and hopefully by the end I'll have something to help them with.

But really, like I said, the author is key. I guess that's just how it works for me.

EDIT: I guess, after looking at those ehelps to which I have actually replied to, it seems to be that the main thing in the titles that draws me in is proper grammar. Whoops.

I try to read them all. Though I will be hesitant to read an eHelp on self-harm. Mostly because I really wouldn't know what to say or what type of advice to give.

I don't think anything in particular attracts me to and eHelp though.

I read all ehelps, well at least the first few paragraphs. It's only rarely that one's title sounds interesting, mostly because they're usually really brief, lol.

I do look at the titles and see what I'll be able to help best with. I don't ever 'not read' one if i have the time, i do click on it, read it and see if i can help.

The titles that would make me want to read one more than another would probably be something along the lines of  whatever i can help out with most really, stuff like "I'm confused about my sexuality" and "I have anxiety issues in college", i find this is the case because i can relate to those best.

I'm like ImSoHappy: I tend to go for ones that interest me and that I think I'll be able to help with. That's normally issues with stress, schoolwork and organisation, but I often go for friendship issues. I do occasionally reply to self harm and dating ehelps, but I have less experience of those areas and the dating ones often bore me to tears so I tend to concentrate on others.

I often read ehelps with no intention of answering them. For example, I always read ehelps about alcohol and drug abuse (especially alcohol and worries about addiction) because it's an area in which I'm extremely interested, even though I wouldn't be able to help.

For eHelps:
I tend to look at the eHelps from people I am friend's with. I want to help them, mostly because I have talked to them, so I may know a bit more about their past, etc. I feel more obligated to help my friends. Then, I help members I recognize. I usually look at the topic title, then click in it. I am discouraged to answer an eHelp in all caps, or without using spell check. I tend to answer guests, anonymous, and "novices" after that. :(

For Topics:
I browse through the Fresh Topics, if it is worth answering, I will. From there, I browse each forum, and see if I can assist in the topic. If the title says "Help" I always click it. I have never looked through DTRM to add replies, no point.

I'm also like ImSoHappy. The ones I can relate to are the usually the ones which I feel I can give the most supportive answers to so I usually click the ones that I know I will be able to answer. But I do sometimes read other ones. I steer completely clear of self harm e-helps and e-helps which are just 2 lines going "zomg am I pregnant the condom broke :'("

For when I'm actually going in eHelp [I wish I had the bloody determination to at the moment, but I don't] I generally read the ones with 1reply first so that they're "marked as read" and read the first few lines to see if it's a topic I can help with. I can still do the sexuality ones at the moment, I just find eHelp so daunting.

I try not to look at usernames, but the title is meant to tell us what's in the eHelp, so if it's say "sex and pressure" or "my boyfriend is lying" orrr "my mum is ill" and descriptive like that I can be more inclined to look at the eHelp.

I usually click on every eHelp.  I am guilty sometimes of skipping through them if they are not structured properly.  Sometimes when I am not in the mood to decipher and try to figure out what they are trying to say I will save them for later.

I click on the ones that catch my eye, and if I read something I Think I could cope with I'll answer it.

One thing that concerned me was that people were voting to delete an eHelp that was titled "Suicide" without reading the actual eHelp itself. The actual eHelp was perfectly legitimate and was about how the poster needed help dealing with someone who was contemplating suicide, but the support leaders didn't read this and tried to have it deleted anyway.

I tend to click on the ones that divulge more in their titles - it lets me know what I'm dealing with.

I try to read all the topics that come up, but if the topic is a wall of text, I can't bring myself to read it. Especially if there's bad spelling or no punctuation.
