I'm quite happy with XP home, I've never had my computer lock up, Never!!  I've never had any problems with it, it sees all of my USB stuff, it works with my modem, and I see no problems ahead.  I'll stick with XP.

put it this way...i know lots about my enemy

first my opinion:  longhorn is gonna be the demise of microsoft, this is when people are gonna realize "thats expensive and it sucks at the same time".  alternatives (not necessairly (sp) linux) are going to start to become popular at this time.

requirements:

3 ghz minimum, 4-6 (nonexistant) recommended for decent performance

2 gig of ram *minimum

1gigabit ethernet built in (sounds like a ploy for propriteary parts )

a wireless 802.11g receiver built in (more proprietary parts?)

and graphical cards that have 3 times the preformance of those on the market right now.

up to a terabyte for the storage (currently possible but very expensive with raid and such)

i wonder how much that theoritical system costs? lemme guess, all intel components?

its scheduled to release in 2006, which they had to drop WinFS from the plan to meet that date.  What are they gonna use NTFS? thats efficient

(Edited by mephisto mortis at 3:19 pm on Sep. 15, 2004)

Sounds like they have a great deal with hardware manufactuers.

OS X on the other hand, keeps making the slower hardware more efficient!

Indeed, as with linux  ;)

Plus, I'll try to find the article but MS, Intel and a few other companies are beginning a project to integrate a "security" chip into motherboards.  Namely mobo's compatible with Windows-capable system architectures (x86, and amd64).  The chip is suppose to help prevent the downloading of movies, but exploit the rest of the areas that MS uses to monitor your computer.

The GUI standard on Longhorn is absolutly horrid.  And windows is trying to copy linux somewhat with different 'flavours'.  Ill stick with my linux with win2k only as a backup.

If you are going to make a statement like that, back it up.  I much rather prefer Linux over Mac anytime.  And Mac over Windows, but I'm not going to say Windows suck outright, Ive seen/used the Longhorn GUI and I really didnt like it.  The Mac OSX is not my favorite, but the backend is a BSD system.

I have to admit that Linux does rule the roost!!!

Windows takes the second place,

Mac is just a load of bullshit. it hands whatever you fucking try to do. its a load of shit in my opinion.

I like OS's I can program in.

I use unix and windows.

I use unix to do C/networking

I use windows for application programming..

I prefer these two because they are mainstream, and most consumers purchase mainstream software.  :l

That is exactly the reason I do not prefer Windows.  Most viri, adware, spyware, are all made for it.

Longhorn is using the WinFS, successor to NTFS, so it supposedly is better :p.  Eh, it's bloatware to me.  I don't want something making my computer running at full load all the time.  Especially my laptop, it's noisy as it is, don't need an intensive GUI to rape it even further.
