Toshiba A135-S7403 Laptop & Canon 3-in-1 Printer Package

My mom wants to buy this laptop tomorrow. I know a little about computers, but not enough to tell her if it's a worthy deal or not. Comments please?

That's plenty good enough, and a pretty good bargain too. Fuck, £150 for a laptop of that spec is amazing to the general public. I hate you, I wish they had those sort of deals in the UK. :|

vista is not a good deal, my sister has it. once you get vista, you need a VISTA microphon, VISTA headphones, and only appliances with vista will work on it which are harder to find and even more expencive but apart from that its a pretty sweat deal. i think you should go for it just, if the guy at the store asks you if you want vista, its better to say no. but thats just me!

Well, the first problem is that it's running Vista Home Basic. contrary to what the name implies, it's not a light weight operating system. 512 RAM isn't really enough. Also, it's gonna bne a pig on those integrated graphics, and that mediocre processor.

Basically, It's gonna run like shit, but it's cheap. I say spend more and get something worthy.

From the link you posted, it looks fairly decent and at a good price to. I have been using a Toshiba laptop and haven`t had to many problems.

Owh, I didn't notice it came with Vista...maybe  you could just reformat it and put a less heavy operating system on it, XP?

Oi yeah, I didn't notice it either until it was mentioned. My mom didn't care when I told her. But I was thinking the same thing as far as reformatting it.

512 isn't a problem for RAM, since it'll only be my mom and dad using it, and they don't run any apps besides our ISP and Firefox. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

However, if I know my family (which I like to think that I do), me and my sister will eventually take over the laptop. xD If that ever happens, my parents could just buy more RAM.

Oh yeah, and assuming the Canon works with Vista (which I would hope, since it's bundled), it might be worth noting that after about a year the print quality will be markedly worse than when you get it fresh. The reason for this is that the print heads aren't part of the cartridges, so after a while they wear out. Other printer companies charge more for cartridges because they include the print head, and therefore increase the life span of the printer.

In summary, it's a stupid deal to go for, I wouldn't touch it.

512mb is plenty to run basic, but they may have to turn off the nice effects.
Integrated graphics suck.
The proc should be either dual core, or at least not a celeron.

Well you just kinda proved your point. There are no nice effects in Vista Basic, that's as raw as it comes. Lol. It's a naff deal, shall we agree on that?
