Stick with XP.  I was forced into getting Vista, but I have grown to like it.

It sucks when your personal laptop has Vista, and work is XP and you try to do stuff that can only be done on Vista, ha... It's annoying at times.

Unless your computer has enough RAM and a good processor.
Vista is a resource hog.

if u are building a custom-made system like i will be doing on about 3 or so months, make sure ur system will have atleast 4GB of ram. more the ram, the better and faster ur system will be.

Antivirus. Smart one.

I like it, but I wouldn't upgrade from XP. You don't know what could happen...

Is it worth upgrading from windows xp sp2 to windows vista

Never upgrade to Vista. If it comes on a new PC, fine, but upgrading will give you no end of headaches unless you're very lucky. And I hope you don't have any printers.

No stick with XP. But I recently bought a new Laptop that came with Vista and so far its been working flawlessly.

Truth is; Vista only sucks when you upgrade from a XP machine.

No- Vista also sucks if you don't manually go in and throughly customize it. That is, prune all the numerous useless services, and then disable the ones you won't use, use a proper user account to avoid constant UAC confirmation dialogs even when you're just using the computer normally, etc.

Ok then let me re phrase that...

Vista is good if you're experienced with tweaking settings etc.

If you have poor tweaking knowledge then stick with xp.

It's always the same old story with new operating systems from Windows.  People will complain about the new one and will end up liking it along the road.  I remember looooooooong time ago when Windows came out.  I was too young to use computers but I remember hearing people complain saying they preferred DOS hahaha!  Then Windows 95 came out and people complained saying that Windows was better.  Then Windows 98, same story.  Windows Millenium...people even complained about Windows XP and now I hear people saying that it's nice and you should keep XP.  Go figure.

I'll give Vista a few months to see people loving it.  My guess is that if a system does not have good components then it can be a bad experience.  How about having at least 4GB of memory, Dual Core 3.0 or Quad 2.4 and up, a graphics card of at least 512MG, more than 250GB of space, etc.  It would be just fine.

That's right UniqOne.  But later on along the road everybody ends up upgrading to the new OS.  I like Vista 64 with the computer I have now (Dua2Core 3ghz, 6gb of memory, 640MB video card, etc.) but not all software is done 64bit compatible yet.  Haven't found a webcam that works just right with Vista 64 yet and other software like VLC player or Azerus (torrents) are not made for Vista 64 yet.  So gotta wait.

I say stick with XP.  Vista isn't all that great, and it's pretty pricey for what it is.

is directx 10 worth it

Honestly, if you could use DX10, you probably wouldnt be asking.

Yes, DX10 is pretty, but its near impossible to run.

I personally like Vista (Im probably going to get rid of XP this week) but Ive had time to adjust it, and I have a PC that can run it (4gb RAM, Quad Core processor, 8 series video card).

In short, keep with XP for another year, unless you get a PC that comes with Vista.

Drivers are the biggest problem with Vista right now, and most NEW PCs have good drivers.
