I was thinking.  Support Leaders have the power to move topics and vote to hide replies.  There has been discussion about whether we should have this power.  Why not tie good judgement into the points system?

Here's my idea:
Moderation tasks such as moving topics are worth a fractional point.  Voting to hide a reply is worth a fractional point as well, but if the reply ends up being voted to not be hidden, the point is taken away, and a points penalty is issued.

Same goes for if a member debates the hide, and the Moderators find the moderation action to have been in error.

I think this scheme would encourage good judgement and responsible behavior of SLs, since it's worth points to be a good SL.

What do you think?  I know my idea needs refinement, I'm just throwing it out there.

I sort of like this, but at the same time I do not. I don't want our SLs to feel afraid to vote or take action they feel is right based on the idea that they could be punished for it points-wise.

I don't like it.

I think support leaders already do an outstanding job on moving topics/removing posts...  I don't see a reason why we need to offer them points for it.

I agree with The Professional, I don't think we should have a point incentive to move topics or removing posts. I mean, it seems like a good idea, but I don't think it is necessary.

Ideally this would be a good idea, but there are too many 'circumstances' that could make a moved topic or a vote to hide not be the right move even if it is guideline approved.

For example:

I move topics like crazy .  I don't do it for the satisfaction of getting my power fix, but I do it because I feel the member would get the best answers in the place I put the topic.  Rarely I get a pm from a member wanting their topic moved back for a certain reason, and if the topic could fit in the previous forum, I don't have a problem moving it back.

In that case would I have a penalty point?

I don't think we can issue penalty points or even any type of point removal for something as small as this.

If a member breaks the rules in a serious way, promotes harm, for example, then they will most likely be given penalty points incurred under a warning, but if a topic is wrongly moved, it can be moved again, the same sort of thing goes with post removals, if a member feels a support leader removed their post wrongfully, they can submit an MER and the moderators will review it and decide if any further action needs to be taken.

The point being, i don't believe actions such as; wrongfully moving topics or wrongfully removing posts should bring forth a punishment as harsh as penalty points.

I hate the idea of "rewarding" people for anything that normal members can't do, just because they deserve it or something.

But I don't think that was your idea. And if you actually think it will encourage something positive, I'd have to disagree with you.

Why so serious?

Punishing support leaders with penalty points over something as small and trivial as a single post is unfair.  If someone is blatantly abusing the system, sure, but not over a disagreement about whether a post should be moved or hidden.

As I see it, this could go either 2 ways.
A) Due to the point incentive we've now got SLs who're a little more willing to move things/delete things then previously to get those points.
B) They're too afraid because of how it might effect their "penalty" points, which could make them unavailable for things like the OB.

Penalty points don't really mean much though, even on the mod application it's about posts deleted, not penalty points, if my memory serves me.

I understand you're trying to encourage diligence, but I feel there could be some better systems put in place other then a reward/punishment one for correctly moderating - like a better record for accountability and correctness in moderation, mainly because it's not about the single post, or single wrong topic move, but if it is a general problem and trend for the SL themselves, it should be made a note of.
